In whose memory did the FIH create the Super Fair Play Trophy in 1984?

Shashank said...

René G. Frank

This Trophy was created by the FIH to preserve the memory of Mr. René G. Frank who has been respectively Secretary General the FIH from 1950 to 1966 and President from 1966 to 1983. It was presented to the Federation in Brussels in 1984 by the Association Royale Belge de Hockey during the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the FIH.

The Trophy is awarded every two years in conjunction with the Congress, to a team or an individual known to have shown the greatest spirit of sportsmanship during a period of two or four years. Men, Women, Senior and Junior teams as well as individuals may aspire to this Trophy.

What is the hockey schedule for the 2010 world cup? Will you be posting a tabulated update on the matches - points, won, lost, pool stats? Many corporates block sports sites other than cricket [because Sr. Mgmt follow cricket and ask systems administrators not to block for their own viewing pleasure] This blog is not blocked [as yet] in my corporate. Look forward to World Cup 2010 updates on this [along with your personal comments on the off the field happenings] Thanks

Dear Mr. Gaurav,

Actually I don't plan to provide any coverage to the WC. I do cover (unofficially though) any event that the usual media is not following up, e.g. I regularly updated my blog site for Women's Asia Cup in Nov '09.
I can suggest you few sites, you can check if you can reach them:
stick2hockey.com: in coming out with a lot of info on WC and plans to bring out LIVE commentary of the matches.
then the official WC site: http://specials.msn.co.in/sp10/hockey/

Let me know if it doesn't work out for you! :)
I will surely keep writing thoughts as it comes to my head! :)

Hi Shashank,

Glad to see that you follow Canara Bank in the Super Division. I used to be a great fan of the team and knew every player when growing up. In fact, I saw them continously from '85 to '88 ( when Khalid joined the team in 87-88 and they did not have a goalkeeper for almost a year!) and again off an on from '90-99/2000. I saw every game when they got the promotion to A division and again to the Super league. Glad they are still in the super league. They were a great Bunch they, they still are.
I have hand written diary notations especially from their '87 season - Gregory Kujur, Vijin Chengappa, Nandish, Thammiah, Madaiah, Belliappa, Lazarus, Vinod, Srinivas and Christopher was the team with MohanRaj off and on in the goal till Khalid came.
Agree with your comment about how humble even the international players are. It used to be the same even then!! Good to hear somebody cares about hockey!!
